We all know that auto insurance is required in order to drive a vehicle. But sometimes it is difficult to understand what is required, what is suggested, and what we should be looking for in our coverage. This should offer a bit of insight as to the types of insurance offered.
First off it is important to note that there are many different options available to everyone and they range in price that can best suit your needs. While it seems more insurance is always better, sometimes financially it is not feasible for the average car owner and their budget to pay for every insurance available. It is important to decide which insurance best suits your budget and which will work for you the most should something happen.
First off there is Liability Insurance. This is designed to protect those involved in an accident that results in damage and/or physical injury if the accident was your fault. It includes legal costs in most cases, but it is important to check this when you first take out the policy. Along with liability, collision insurance will pay out in the event of damage and usually has a deductible attached with this type of insurance.
Comprehensive coverage is available for instances that involve theft, natural disaster and even vandalism. For cars that are paid off, this type of coverage is not required. If your car is financed, then you will be required to take out comprehensive coverage.
Other types of insurance can be added on to your policy and include personal injury protection and uninsured motorist coverage. Under your personal injury protection should you choose to have it, medical costs are covered no matter the party at fault. If you have uninsured motorist protection, it will pay for damage and injuries that you may receive should the driver that hit you not have the required liability insurance. Some drivers find it helpful to add on rental reimbursement coverage which would pay for a rental car should your vehicle be out of commission.
Budget will play a huge role in determining what type and the level of coverage you decide to have in your insurance policy. However, it is important that you know the different types of insurance available and carefully make the decision as to how much and what type you take out just to be on the safe side.
